Google announced big news this
past week. Let's break it down.
It's services (Gmail, YouTube, +, as well as a whole lot more) are changing to improve the experience for its target market. Bringing together 70 different privacy policies in order to streamline. Is this true?
It is true, so what does it mean to me the small business owner?
Well, your android phone now will give the precise location information based on the GPS data collected. Is this different than before or the IPhone?
No.
Businesses actually will gain new tools as technology / information expands. However, it will have negative consequences to those that are lagging behind in ramping up technology for online success.
A painted picture:
Say I want a gym membership, Google pulls all of the data of where I've been, bought, researched etcetera, and returns results that are much more specific and relevant.
As search becomes better and better, online businesses will be able to target a more specific audience. Although I am sure that they have done this already, but pulling information from one Google platform and transferring it to another in order to give you the best results possible.
We receive the services that Google provides in return they get to track so much more data than even last year (Remember that Google made 526 changes to its algorithm last year alone).
Online marketing will continue to develop. We as marketing people will adapt to giving our clients the best results from Inbound Marketing. While I am concerned about the future of all this data mining, I can't help but think that the internet will grow and the group of small businesses that choose to keep up will be the ones who benefit by better tools to reach their specific target market.
